We’ve visited Ruth Lake multiple times over the years but had yet to camp at it.  As summer started to dwindle down, we took a Monday to hike out and spend the day and night lakeside.

Our preferred spot was a smaller lake to the North of Ruth, but our spot was taken by other campers. Ruth had the perfect site, although right on trail.

Campsite

A small brook passed a few feet from our tent, and wildflowers sprinkled the hills with pink, red, yellow, and blue. We erected our tent, mosquito net, and collected water for usage. Here is a link to information about dispersed camping in the uintas. Here is another to any active fire restrictions in the uintas.

We spent a majority of our day fishing and splaying out in our chairs to soak in the quiet.

Dinner – Campfire Shrimp Tacos

Dinner was delicious, we decided on shrimp tacos.  Keeping the seafood cool till dinner was a little complicated with a carrying cooler and ice packs, but it was worth the effort.

-Raw Shrimp seasoned with paprika, salt, and pepper

-Corn tortillas

-Homemade Pico (tomatoes and onion)

-Cabbage

-Tarter Sauce

The only thing we needed to make was cooking the shrimp! Ronny whittled us some skewers and after a fifteen minute wait, we had a plate full of shrimp tacos. This also left us with little to no waste afterwards!

Sunsets and fishing

Our evening was topped off by some shoreline fishing.  By this point in the night, all the day hikers are back home and we had the lake to ourselves. Eventually we were joined by a family coming in for a quick night, later in the evening they came over to join our big campfire and talk about the nature around us.

Night came swiftly and we doused our fire, cleaned up camp, and zipped ourselves up in our tent for the night.
